The rare maps in the The Quivira Collection date from 1540 to 1802 and bracket a period of history unprecedented for general expansion of knowledge and information. Collectively, the 29 maps in the exhibit constitute a significant representation of European knowledge of the Northwest Coast as explorers continued their quest to discover a new trade route to the East. The maps in this exhibit are as much works of art as compendiums of knowledge.
