Saturday, October 15, 2:30 p.m., free to Museum Members or with paid admission to the Museum - NEW EXHIBIT: Cleveland Rockwell (1837-1907), Astoria, the Lower Columbia and the Coast
Cleveland Rockwell was the foremost painter of the Pacific Northwest. Although he did not become a full-time painter until his retirement in 1892, the many sketches he made on his expeditions with U.S. Coast Survey served as the basis for his later oil and watercolor paintings. Showing sketches, watercolors and oil paintings of this area from over a century ago, this exhibit depicts the stunning beauty of the unspoiled landscape. This opening of this exhibit coincides with the opening of Astoria's Bicentennial Celebration, May 20, 2011. - ANNOUNCEMENT: Deputy Director Dave Pearson to participate in the Getty Museum Leadership Institute's Museum Executive Training Program
