ADULT CARVING CLUB - Thursday mornings, 9:00AM - 12:00Noon
Since 2016, the Barbey Maritime Center has hosted a casual, weekly meeting of carving enthusiasts. The group is composed of both expert and beginner carvers who pursue a variety of styles ranging from traditional Northwest coast Native American designs, to figurines and quarter boards. Many of the participants began their carving with the “Introduction to Carving” class offered by CRMM’s Education Department. Carvers work on current projects, as well as trade tips, techniques and design ideas. Each participant should bring their own tools and materials. The carving group is a great way to maintain skills and develop new ones.

ADULT WEAVING CLUB - selected Fridays, 10:00AM - 12:00Noon
December 6 and 27, 2024 January 3, 17 and 31, 2025 February 7 and 21, 2025 March 7 and 21, 2025 In the era of wooden boats, “chafing mats” were woven out of repurposed fishing line and placed on the deck in high traffic areas to reduce wear and tear on the wooden surface. It was regarded as a boat ‘accessory’ and many sailors who had pride in their craft learned how to weave them. Join crew members from CRMM to try your hand at weaving these historic patterns! Note that designs may be different from week to week and are subject to participant interest. |
