Since 2016, the Barbey Maritime Center has hosted a casual, weekly meeting of carving enthusiasts. The group is composed of both expert and beginner carvers who pursue a variety of styles ranging from traditional Northwest coast Native American designs, to figurines and quarter boards. Many of the participants began their carving with the “Introduction to Carving” class offered by CRMM’s Education Department. Carvers work on current projects, as well as trade tips, techniques and design ideas. The group meets on Thursday mornings from 9:00 AM-12:00 PM in the shop at the Barbey Maritime Center. Each participant should bring their own tools and materials. The carving group is a great way to maintain skills and develop new ones.
