ARTifacts: Watercolor Painting the Museum's Collections Thursday, October 10, 2024 6:00 - 8:00PM Barbey Maritime Center at the Columbia River Maritime Museum (located on the east end of the Museum's campus) Join us for this open-paint session as we look at Columbia River Maritime Museum’s collections in a totally new light! We will be interpreting artifacts not typically on display through still-life watercolor painting. Learn about the history of each object and how it came into CRMM’s possession – then, try your hand recreating it! This event is open to all skill levels. Participants will be expected to bring their own supplies; light snacks and adult beverages will be provided.* *Note that participants must be over the age of 21 to participate in this event. $20 Members OR no alcoholic beverage, $35 Non-Members Class minimum 6, class maximum 15 |
Beginning Watercolor: Landscapes with Lindsey Aarts November 6, 7, 8 and 13, 14, 15, 2024 6:00 - 8:00PM each date (6-course series) Barbey Maritime Center at the Columbia River Maritime Museum (located on the east end of the Museum's campus) Join local artist Lindsey Aarts in getting to know the basics of watercolor using the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest as your guide! In this six-session course, students will learn fundamental painting techniques, color mixing, and process of working in landscape painting. Supplies are not included; a list of necessary supplies will be provided prior to the start of the course. $115 Members, $140 Non-Members Minimum 6, Maximum 12 |
Woodblock Printmaking with Rosie Bergeron November 9 & 10, 2024 9:00AM - 4:00PM each date Barbey Maritime Center at the Columbia River Maritime Museum (located on the east end of the Museum's campus) Students will learn how to carve a woodblock and make prints from their carving. Students will spend their first day laying out their design and learning the basics of carving with Shina plywood. The class’s second day will be focused on printmaking from the students’ woodblocks. Skill level: Beginner. No experience with hand tools necessary. All tools will be available for use. Students are welcome to bring their own tools if desired. Tools will include chisels, brayers, burrens, ink, paper, newsprint and shina plywood. $110 Members, $130 Non-Members Minimum 6, Maximum 12 |
Building a Half Hull Model with Chuck Bollong
December 7 & 8, 2024 9:00AM - 3:00PM each date Barbey Maritime Center at the Columbia River Maritime Museum (located on the east end of the Museum's campus) Learn how to create a beautiful wood half-hull model of a double-ended sailing gillnetter similar to those used on the Columbia River over a century ago. The design is based on the full-size reproduction on display in the museum’s Brix Hall. You will also learn the history of half-hulls and how they were used to design full-size ships. Beginner. No previous woodworking experience necessary. All tools will be provided, but if you have a favorite wood rasp or wood file you are welcome to bring it. OPEN FOR MEMBER REGISTRATION ONLY |
Class Cancellation Policy
The Columbia River Maritime Museum reserves the right to cancel classes/workshops not meeting the minimum enrollment 7 days prior to the start date. If a class is cancelled, Columbia River Maritime Museum staff will contact students in the affected class and offer a full refund or credit towards another class.
Students who withdraw 5 days or more prior to the first day of class will receive a full refund.
Students who withdraw less than 5 days prior to a class, after the class has been confirmed and the instructor has been contracted for the class,
will not receive a full refund, unless there are extenuating circumstances deemed valid by the Columbia River Maritime Museum.
Any requests for refunds due to extenuating circumstances should be submitted in writing for consideration to [email protected].
