Sam Johnson Woodworking Shop at Barbey Maritime Center
2042 Marine Drive, Astoria, OR

Learn the basics of lathework in this introductory woodturning class where students will create a set of their own lighthouse tea lights. Students will receive personal, hands-on instruction as they get to know the feel of the lathe before beginning on their final project. 

$90 Members, $110 Non-Members
Minimum 3, Maximum 6

​​Preserving Your Family History
with CRMM Registrar Meg-Glazier Anderson

Saturday, June 6, 2026

Do you have family heirlooms and old photos lying around the house but don’t know what to do with them? 

In this workshop, CRMM Registrar Meg Glazier-Anderson will share with participants about the importance of thinking intentionally when preserving your family’s history. The course will highlight best practices, common pitfalls, and tips and tricks that help historic objects, photos, and documents stand the test of time.

Participants are encouraged to bring one item from their family history that they would like to discuss in the class.

Building a Half Hull Model
with Chuck Bollong

Saturday & Sunday, June 20 & 21, 2026 (2-day class)
9:00AM - 3:00PM each day

Developed to design ships, scale half-hull models were only invented in the 1790s. They provided a quick and efficient method for transferring measurements from the model to the full-sized vessel.

In this class you will learn the principles of how half-hull models were made. You will use templates to create the individual lifts, then glue and shape into the scale model that you will take home.

Beginner Level: no previous woodworking experience necessary
​and all tools will be provided.

$100 Members, $120 Non-Members

Class Cancellation Policy
The Columbia River Maritime Museum reserves the right to cancel classes/workshops not meeting the minimum enrollment 7 days prior to the start date. If a class is cancelled, Columbia River Maritime Museum staff will contact students in the affected class and offer a full refund or credit towards another class.

Students who withdraw 5 days or more prior to the first day of class will receive a full refund.
Students who withdraw less than 5 days prior to a class, after the class has been confirmed and the instructor has been contracted for the class,
will not receive a full refund
, unless there are extenuating circumstances deemed valid by the Columbia River Maritime Museum.
Any requests for refunds due to extenuating circumstances should be submitted in writing for consideration to [email protected]. 

(*) Adult Education Programming is open for Member Registration for up to 2 weeks prior to opening for Non-Member Registration.
