UPCOMING ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAMMING
Weaving Traditional Maritime Mats with Greg Neitzel
Saturday, January 25, 2025 12:00Noon - 3:00PM Barbey Maritime Center at the Columbia River Maritime Museum (located on the east end of the Museum's campus) In the era of wooden boats, “chafing mats” were woven out of repurposed fishing line and placed on the deck in high traffic areas to reduce wear and tear on the wooden surface. It was regarded as a boat ‘accessory’ and many fishermen who had pride in their craft learned how to weave them. In this Saturday afternoon course, students will select, measure, cut and weave the Oval mat from repurposed fishing line. CLASS IS FULL Contact the Education Department if you wish to be added to this class' waitlist. |
